About Emily
I'm Emily, a Los Angeles-based developer, technical writer, and editor with over 11 years of experience in enterprise software, AI research, and application development. I founded EmscapeForge to offer the kind of careful, skilled work that larger agencies often can't — or won't — give to smaller clients.
My background spans both sides of the communication divide: I can write the code and explain it clearly, design the system and document it, build the website and make sure every word on it earns its place. That combination is rare, and it's what I bring to every project.
I've spent years as an Innovation Engineer and Application Developer at enterprise organizations, leading AI research, building proofs of concept, and creating training and documentation for technical and non-technical audiences alike. Outside of work, I've edited novels, built fan convention websites, and served as a Women Techmakers Ambassador and Google Developer Groups Organizer.

How I Use AI
AI is part of my toolkit, but it isn't my replacement.
I use it differently depending on the work. On technical projects, it can help me explore approaches, research unfamiliar territory, write scaffolding, work through repetitive tasks, and find edge cases. For writing projects, it can help with research, organization, first drafts, and alternative ways of explaining an idea. In editing, it can be another set of eyes for catching inconsistencies or mechanical errors. In career coaching, it can help with research, exercises, and brainstorming.
The important part is what happens next.
I bring human judgment to the work: deciding what matters, asking better questions, recognizing when an answer sounds plausible but isn't actually right, preserving someone's voice, understanding context, and knowing when the machine's suggestion should simply be ignored.
I've spent years working with emerging technology in enterprise environments, where questions about accuracy, security, privacy, intellectual property, bias, and business value are part of the job. I bring that same scrutiny to AI in client work. I use it when it makes the work better or more efficient—not simply because it's available.
You aren't hiring me to have an AI generate something and put my name on it. You're hiring me to solve a problem, communicate clearly, make good decisions, and stand behind the result. AI is one of the tools I use to do that.
